ABOUT JULIANA URBAN
Originally from Northern California, soprano Juliana Urban currently resides in Montreal and is completing a Graduate Diploma in Professional Performance at The Schulich School of Music of McGill University.
She has performed a wide variety of music, ranging from Medieval to Contemporary genres, and is particularly drawn to early 17th century Italian repertoire. She will perform a concert of French Baroque and Bach Cantatas in February with other musicians of McGill University and will be recording music for voice and lute in early April with lutenist Alexis Risler.
An accomplished choral singer, Juliana is currently a member of the prestigious choir of the church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in Montreal and will be the soprano soloist with McGill’s Baroque Orchestra performance of Vivaldi’s Magnificat. This past winter she had the great privilege of sharing the stage with Bernard Labadie, Les Violons du Roy and La Chapelle de Québec for performances of Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C minor in Quebec City and Montreal.
On the operatic stage, Juliana was most recently seen performing the role of Ceres in the US Premier of Reinhard Keiser’s Pomona at the Amherst Early Music Festival. With Opera McGill, she had the great opportunity of covering the lead role in Handel’s Rodelina and performed the role of La Statue in Rameau’s Pygmalion.
Juliana is a student of soprano Dominque Labelle and has studied Feldenkreis with contralto, Karen Clark. She loves going back to California every so often to see family and friends, but mainly to join Vajra Voices in bringing the music of Hildegard von Bingen to a wide variety of audiences across the Bay Area.
